Object data:

  • created around 1900, artist unknown
  • iron dagger with an ornate sheath
  • sold by missionary and collector Hermann Tönjes to the museum in 1909

What did we find out?

Conclusion:

The knife shows how culturally valuable some of the artefacts can be. The students suspect a historical connection to the Ondonga royal family.

However, as it was stolen, the exact place of origin cannot be traced. The restitution from Berlin can only partially compensate for this circumstance.
